Leaving Kenya

Due to circumstances I didn't expect, I was not able to keep you up to date with the latest news on the blog; but our week was busy, busy busy with lots of wonderful events and some not so wonderful. But all part of God's plan. The people of Kenya are so gracious and kind it is hard to leave them. We have had lots of opportunities to meet and talk to our Kenyan friends. Dale and I had time to meet Kenyan doctors and nurses. Our ministries have been a real blessing to all of us and we can't wait to share with you when we get home how God was able to use us here; I am sure we will all say we learned more than we served. We are not the same people we were when we left Phila. Dale spent two days in Nairobi Hosp. as you may know but was discharged today and is feeling much better; he was sick all week; but praise God Kimberly Tipton and Lois helped us find a wonderful dr. who helped him get excellent care beginning Thursday. Dale was having trouble with his kidneys which was getting pretty serious, but they were to avert a real crisis and he is able to travel with the group. Thanks for your prayers on our behalf. Please pray for Pam Baird as she awoke today with a stomach bug and is really struggling. She needs our prayers to travel tonight!

Can't wait to see you and share with you all that God has shown us here in this wonder ful place called Kenya!! See you soon.

God is Good

Today was our first ministry day and some of what we experienced was exciting, emotional and overwhelming. Lois Carr, Pam, Ginny and Lynn have traveled to Nakuru which is 90 minutes away to work with the IDP camps and a church in that area for the next 3 days; Please pray for them as they have so much they want to do in that time. There are 3000 children remaining in the camp. Ron, Sue and Lei went with George Mixon another Missionary serving with WHM here with the Carrs, and had the chance to visit two families from Pastor Joel's church. Holly, Lin P. Judy, and Debbie went to Mukuru and worked with Kimberly Tipton with Kianga Kids ministries. That was amazing and overwhelming. Such poverty we have never seen. Dale and David were also there with Robert working on the playground. We will all come home different people from our experiences in Kenya. God is at work here. We need your prayers, as do the Carrs!

God is Good!

We have seen so many answers to prayer since we departed from Philadelphia and arrived safely in Nairobi. Although it is rainy season it has not rained since our arrival on Saturday and the weather has been beautiful which has made getting around on the busy and bumpy roads easier. Tomorrow will begin ministry directly with the children in the slums where we will be for the next 3 days. We are trusting God to give us His enabling to interact with the children and share Jesus. Several team members will travel an hour and 30 minutes to Naivasha where they will work with residents in the displaced camp. Please pray for them and for all team members as they engage in different ministry opportunities. Thank you for your prayers!
Holly

We arrived

The Kenya team Has arrived in Nairobi! WIth minimal jet lag we are here enjoying Kenyan hospitality. Yesterday was Sunday and we split into three groups and worshiped in three different churches, 2 in the slums and the third was New City Fellowship Robert and Lois Carr's church. All of us were blessed by our different worship experiences, and the warmth of the Kenyan people. We have been learning alot about the culture from the Carr's and had a short Swahili lesson from Evans their Kenyan language teacher. Today then we had a prayer walk through the heart of Nairobi. Then we spent time at the American Embassy Bombing Memorial, where 218 Kenyans an d Americans died in 1998. This has been a wonderful day, Praise God.
Please continue to pray for us as tomorrow we begin our ministry days!

Finally

Today's the day; after more than a year of planning and praying, we are leaving for Kenya. We are all feeling excited, anxious and ready to go! We will meet at New Life Dresher around 2:30 with all of our stuff and go to the airport together. If you were not at church on Sunday and did not get to hear what we will be doing here is a small glimpse into what has been planned for us:
we are split into 3 teams; 1 team will be building a playground on the grounds of a church which houses a preschool; 2nd team will be working alongside teachers in the preschool presenting a short VBS; 3rd team will go with Lois Carr to another site and work with children and mothers offering medical care. Most of our work will take place in the Mukuru slum which is outside of Nairobi.

But we look forward to lots of time for conversations with the people of Kenya and the especially for me, the children. We go with open hearts to love them and learn from them, and bring with us the love of Jesus.

Please continue to pray for us!

Answers to prayer

Last night our team met for prayer again. It is wonderful to pray as a team and to reflect on how God how answered our prayers this past year. Just to see our support come in has been a huge answer; and fuel prices have come down, which means our airplane tickets came down in price too! Now as we pack up and get ready to leave we rest on answered prayer and look forward to watching our God guide us as we travel with continued prayer ! ! Our God reigns...
